A Celebrated Steel Orchestra with an International Story 🌍
Formed in September 1987 by Terry Noel, the award-winning BT Melodians Steel Orchestra has helped young people from varied backgrounds develop their musical skills and discover a wide range of styles. Its repertoire spans classical, modern, calypso, pop and jazz, showcasing the versatility of steel pan music.
The orchestra has performed internationally, appearing at festivals and events across Europe, Asia, the Middle East and beyond. It has also performed for British High Commissioners overseas and appeared for eight successive years at the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in the presence of HM The Queen and members of the Royal Family. Other engagements included performances at Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace and Highgrove House.
Its achievements include two Performing Right Society Enterprise Awards, a Royal Anniversary Challenge Award and a BT Innovation Award—recognition of its distinctive contribution to live music.
